Elliptical Stride Length

Posted by admin on June 16, 2008 in Uncategorized

Many consumers in the market for a residential elliptical trainer often ask: “what’s the ideal elliptical stride length”? Many others find themselves asking: “what’s elliptical stride length?” This article will answer both of these questions.

In very basic terms, “stride length” is the distance between your front and back feet at full extension on an elliptical trainer. It’s the same concept as how long your strides are during walking or running. So why does such a simple concept cause so much confusion for those shopping for an elliptical trainer?

Truth be told, elliptical stride length is but one of several criteria to consider when evaluating an elliptical trainer. In fact, it’s one of the more important features, along with stability, durability, and price that can make or break your decision.

So what is the ideal elliptical stride length? You probably already know the answer: “it depends.” Basically, it depends on your height, which is usually proportional to the length of your legs. Sure, some people have longer or shorter legs relative to their overall height, but in general, it usually follows that the taller your are, the longer your legs.

As a general rule of thumb, unless you’re shorter than 5′3″, then the minimum stride length you should accept is 17″ with 16″ as the absolute minimum. You want to be able to fully extend your legs during each stride to achieve a full range of motion through your hip joints. You don’t want to come up short on your strides, nor do you want to hyper-extend either. Both conditions are undesirable.

In any exercise movement, both cardio and in weight training, you always want to achieve a full range of motion. This is important for complete muscular development as well as preventing problems with your joints and ligaments. Proper stride length for your height is also vital for the overall smoothness and comfort level you will experience on an elliptical trainer.

A taller trainee on an elliptical with a stride length that is too short will feel like he is taking choppy, restricted steps and not enjoy a true elliptical range of motion. This trainee may even be forced to excessively bend his knees and assume a hunched over position to accommodate the shorter stride length. A short trainee on an elliptical with a stride length that is too long for her height will feel like she is slipping on an icy sidewalk. This hyperextension of the hip joints is very undesirable.

Where things get complicated is when more than one person will be using the elliptical trainer. For instance, in the case of a husband who is 6′3″ and his wife who is 5′3″. The husband will need a stride length of around 18″-19″ to experience a comfortable stride. His wife probably will be most comfortable at around a 16″ stride length. However, she can probably do OK with a longer stride length. The ideal solution in this case would be to try an elliptical trainer that has an adjustable stride length such as the Smooth CE or one of the Tunturi ellipticals.

Remember that these dimensions are just very broad guidelines and there is no substitution for trying ellipticals on for size before buying. Also remember that stride length just one criterion to consider when shopping for an elliptical trainer. Many cheap elliptical trainers have stride lengths of 16″ and up, but will come up very short in the durability and reliability departments.

A Casino Bequeathed for My Fun

Posted by admin on June 14, 2008 in Uncategorized

A fornicate affair with sports betting

Uncle Jerome’s portrait on the wall coated with a light yellow shade reminded me of the ace eclectic talent that had faded with his life. He had told me a lot on the Casino and he took me to the edge of having a fornicate affair with the spirit of sports betting. Now the very yellow takes me through the corridors of the big walled, tightly secured doors of the Casino, this time however through the evanescent memory that I wish to convey before it gets lost. We stopped at sports betting and the time that was, when my Uncle loved to bet on the major event of boxing. The sports book was filled with entrants, new, old, veterans and men on the lighter side of the affair like me who wanted to get the feel of the fun.

Tipple yourself with a pint of life

The sounds that swept the corners fell still, the eyes that strained to grab the beat fell cold and then with a sweep as of the foam filled tide on the barnacle filled shore, my uncle grabbed me to a lift of the centaury. My heart fell out through the mouth, we won the bet. This is no romantic visionary that was forced to tell the tale for want of a few dollars; this is an omen that reminds you of the prospects that are in store for tippling yourself with an excess of a life in the casino. A in poker, a sports book and the crowd that could vanish the very macabre life that you have been trotting on as of now; that was what my uncle had to show me and that’s exactly what I have in store for you.

On the footsteps of Jerome

Sports betting are now high on the list; what the game of poker hid behind the set of cards that could spread out the pot in front of you, sports book deals with a better thrill. It’s the screens that you have to be steady to look out for; it’s the passion that you have to gape at and it’s the game of chances you are in the casino for. A game theorist could move the strategies, and you could be the layman who dances in the glade; and a glade it is the Casino and the color that the bet has to offer. So the legality of sports betting being held high on the agenda, something forced to separate it from gambling and that was where my old blood mate Jerome showed me the way to trace the events that could bring out my best.

Name it, Claim it

Posted by admin on in Uncategorized

You’ve heard the expression ‘Name it, Claim it’. Though we’d first need to know the intent of one’s heart, the phrase implies to the Christian version of a spoiled brat … “I’m your child. You owe me!”

It has been said that God is honor bound to do as He said He would do. That statement is more correct. But, first, what did He say?

God will love us in at least as many ways as He did the people of old. But, we don’t get to pick out our favorite verse, stomp our feet, and say, “I want it now!”

To claim what God has named, we first ask Him to show us His will, to give us a promise, or whatever we need (to know His desire for our given situation). It could even be a Bible verse that touches our heart, wherein we can know that that is God’s desire for us also (as our heart is where He dwells).

Once we’ve heard from God, then we can claim it, in full assurance that God will bring it to pass. Our faith is not to be placed in our ability to have faith, to believe it enough, to command loudly enough. Our faith is to be in our God, who promised, who would never break His word; who will love us beyond what we have yet imagined. Our stand is not based upon who we are, but who God is.

“The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.”

Psalm 33:11

He names it. Then, you claim it.

Colored Contacts For Halloween – Make Sure YOU Don’t Go Bump In The Night!

Posted by admin on June 13, 2008 in Uncategorized

Ok, the end of October is approaching, and you desperately want some colored contacts for Halloween. Why? Well, possibly because no one else will have any, maybe because you like to go that extra yard when you dress up, or maybe you want to get your own back on one of the neighbours kids for frightening your cat. Whatever the reason, colored contacts for Halloween make a lot of sense.

But what do you choose?

Well, some of the more conservative colors like blue, brown or green probably wouldn’t cut it. These colors are too subtle and could be used for work maybe, or a dinner party where you are trying to impress. Animal eyes are pretty cool, but are they Halloween eyes? Cat’s eyes might be, but generally speaking, these special effects contact lenses are dance floor eyes. Take them to the nightclub and be the King or Queen of Clubs for the evening.

But for Halloween, what you need is something a little more scary perhaps. Maybe something red – Vampire eyes maybe? That would blow little Johnny’s socks off, don’t you think? Or if we are going down the red road, maybe Zombie eyes would do the business. There is certainly a lot of choice for you. Halloween will never be the same again.

Or perhaps you just like being different. Well, some manufacturers will create custom colors for you. Be prepare to pay more though, because custom made contact lenses will not be stock items, and without the cost benefit of being mass produced, having a unique look could come a little expensive.

And by the way, most colored contact lenses are for cosmetic purposes, and come with zero power. This means that they make no correction to the eye, which in turn means that pretty much anyone can wear them.

The article was written by Charlie Cory, who is the owner of FX Eyes, a website dedicated to providing advice about buying special effects contact lenses online.

8 Tips for Starting and Maintaining a Successful Online Forum

Posted by admin on in Uncategorized

Nothing promotes a business online better than staying in touch with prospects. The more interactive the continued contact, the more of a relationship that is built with a potential client.

This business principle of continued contact and business relationship building has given rise to the popularity of online business forums, and of course, “theme-related” online forums. Online forums quickly establish empathy, set forum owners up as “experts” in the eyes of visitors, and serve as a promotional vehicle for other products and services that forum owners seek to sell.

While online forums are popular and the perfect method of relationship building, starting a forum and maintaining one can be challenging, especially in the beginning when members can be “few” and “far between”. The challenge for most new forum owners is to get beyond the initial start up phase and move onto a phase where the forum members themselves promote the forum simply by posting.

Although each forum is individual and personal, a few general guidelines should be followed or at least kept in mind when starting and maintaining an online forum. These are as follows:

1. Take care when choosing the type of forum and forum script or software that will be used. The forum should be easy to access, easy to use, and come with “visitor- friendly” features. All visitors should be made to feel welcomed and find the navigability of the forum, user friendly. Forum scripts and software, especially “free” varieties, may be overburdened with ads from the parent company and lead to a poor experience for visitors.

Some recommendations:

http://www.vbulletin.com/

2. The forum should have a good number of interesting and focused topics. The content should reflect the interests of the target audience, and every care should be made to have well-written and informative content that is updated regularly. This not only helps attract new members, it keeps older members from losing interest and defecting to other forums.

3. The forum should be Search Engine friendly. High activity forums, like popular blogs, provide a great reason for Search Engines to visit them frequently as they are brimming with fresh content all the while. Dynamic urls, session ids, etc. used by most forum software can be very detrimental to the forum health from Search Engine point of view.

When selecting a forum software, check if they are Search Engine friendly. Open source software like phpbb, have mods (modifications) developed by third party sources, to enhance the forum in many ways.

Here’s a great mod for phpbb to make it Search Engine friendly: http://www.able2know.com/forums/about15132.html

4. The forum needs to have a clear list of rules, a disclaimer, and most of all, good solid moderation. Visitors will quickly become frustrated with forums that have no clear guidelines, or feature rude, obnoxious, or overbearing members. Good manners are required as much online as offline.

5. Promotion, especially in the early days, will take considerable time and effort. Forums can be difficult to start (members generally are “shy” when there are only a few present), and the more posts that take place, the more individuals will join. This is a “snowball” effect of forums, so marketing must be done consistently, day in and day out, until the forum becomes more self-sustaining.

6. The owner of the forum should take an active interest in the forum and SHOW this interest by contributing regularly. Above all else, people join forums where they feel they will learn from the owner of the forum, and if the owner is never present, they quickly lose interest in the forum.

7. The forum should be targeted, yet diverse, encouraging older members to contribute, without making newer members feel uncomfortable. Cliques can form in forums, and this type of behavior should be discouraged by the owner and moderators. Every effort should be made to answer questions or comments by all members as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

8. As with all other Internet related ventures, care needs to be given as to hosting and maintenance of the forum. A forum that is always experiencing “downtime”, will lose members quickly, and a forum that has many coding mistakes will quickly frustrate visitors. As with Web sites, “cheap” providers of hosting and maintenance are not always “better”.

All in all, online forums can be a great way to generate income, develop a good reputation among clients, and provide entertainment and instruction for many individuals. Like with everything else, however, they take marketing savvy, and a great deal of time and attention to detail. The old saying, “You only reap what you sow” really applies to the world of online forums.

Get More Done by Doing Nothing

Posted by admin on in Uncategorized

First of all don’t jump to conclusions… I don’t have ADD, I
just like to do many things. I always have. I believe boredom is
a choice, actually I don’t just believe it, I know it. The world
is full of endless possibilities, in fact maybe too many. That,
in the past had been a problem of mine. Too many things I wanted
to try, and not enough time to try them. Now I have managed,
with the help of hired hands, to bring life into balance, get
more done, and drum roll please…even make more money. Just a
few decades ago, the idea of having personal assistants was only
for the very wealthy, these days you would be a fool not to find
a good one. One idea can change your whole life, but as Emerson
said, “There are voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow
faint and inaudible as we enter into the world.” Most people are
making themselves too busy, so they cannot hear the ideas being
whispered to them. Allowing others to do things for you helps
everyone. There are intelligent people all over the world,
waiting to help you at prices that make it foolish not to hire
them. If you contact me, I can give you the names of a few that
have done wonders for me. Freeing myself of work that others can
perform as well or better than I, permits me to have time in
meditation. Don’t think for a second that meditation only
belongs in the realm of Eastern religion. My introduction came
because of hearing numerous times the same idea being presented
by top business executives. I may not be the sharpest knife in
the kitchen, but I have learned that when I hear the same
subject popping up repeatedly, I check it out. Many people
complain that meditation is difficult, because they cannot still
their mind, for me the problem was I felt I just didn’t have
time to do nothing. Oh, was I wrong there. Meditation has proven
not to be a time waster, but a time saver. A book could be
written on the positive effects of meditation, actually
according to Amazon, 9019 have been written, so I will just add
one benefit. Meditation allows your mind to be receptive of
ideas, ideas which you can hire others from all over the world
to help implement very economically, which allows you more free
time to relax, be with family, enjoy life and come up with more
ideas. Nice little circle, isn’t it. For more information on how
to implement such thinking see the bio box below.

You’ve Got Mail

Posted by admin on June 12, 2008 in Uncategorized

For the last 30 years, the most popular computer application
on the Internet has been email. 30 Years? Yes. The first email
application was built in 1971 and upgraded in 1972. With the
upgrade, email became a widely used and really popular computer
application. But, 30 years? Yes indeed. Don’t take my word for
it, check out “Hobbes’ Internet Timeline – the Definitive
ARPAnet and Internet History” at:

http://www.zakon.org/robert/Internet/timeline/

Granted, most of us had never heard much if anything at all
about the Internet until the mid 1990’s. The world’s first
Internet “browser” was released in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee
for the scientific (physics) community. In 1993, Mosaic was
unleashed and it took the Internet by storm.

Until the release of Mosaic, the net was strictly for nerds,
government employees, scientists and university’s. The net was
restricted pretty much to command line use of email, document
storage and databases. With the release of Tim Berners-Lee’s
browser, and then Mosaic, the web finally had a visual
interface.

1993 was year that the flood gates began to open. With Mosaic
coming online, the White House finally got its own domain at:

http://www.WhiteHouse.gov

and Bill Clinton became the first U.S. President ever to have
his own email address: president@whitehouse.gov

Though the technology and speed of the Internet has constantly
changed throughout the last 30 years, one thing has not
changed, the popularity of email.

“Email is one of the ‘Killer Apps’ of the computer world. Email
is the most successful communications technology since the
television, and in a few years will even surpass that. There
are currently more than 891 million email accounts in use
Worldwide and 440 million in the U.S. alone – with an average
of more than 4 email accounts per person.” (Messaging Today –
2000 Electronic Mailbox Report – Feb. 21, 2001)

The top providers for email service in the world today are
Hotmail (with 86 million users), Yahoo (with 53 million users)
and AOL (with 30 million users).

Email has become so popular that in 1998, Hollywood made a
movie about two people who used email to get to know one
another and fall in love. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan starred in
the hit movie “You’ve Got Mail,” named for the most cherished
voice message on the AOL service.

http://youvegotmail.warnerbros.com/

Statistics show that the majority of people check their email
first before they do anything else. In fact, people spend the
vast majority of their time online reading and answering emails.

While managing multiple email accounts might seem like the
biggest challenge facing Internet users today, it is not. The
biggest challenge is having one computer and a household full
of people who want to check their email. I run a business
online, but if I do not give the computer up to my wife once
in awhile, I would not want to live in my house anymore.

Remember when AOL decided to give their customers seven
accounts so that everyone in the family could have their own
email address and profile? At first it seemed like a good
idea… Then it started… Now you have four people standing
behind you begging to check their email! And the joy of AOL,
you have to log off of one account to check email from another
account. What a bear.

The good news is that as with the progression of the Internet
over the last 30 years, new technological breakthroughs are
always improving our lives. In the last few years, email
notification systems have come into being. Email Notification
software enables you to check multiple email accounts through
one handy little application.

In the early days of email notification software, the interfaces
were clumsy and difficult to use. This may explain why less than
one half of one percent of the net population has ever
downloaded one of these applications. If you were to total up
number of downloads for email notification software on CNET,
ZDNet, and TUCOWS combined, it would not be surprising if the
total did not exceed 500,000 downloads in the last five years.

Most people do not even realize that applications like this
exist. What is more, people who have heard about them often
assume that only a computer guru would be knowledgeable enough
to set it up. Maybe that was the case… in the old days, but
certainly not today.

Today, we have available to us a program called ePrompter
(http://www.eprompter.com?ep2) which is a Free email retrieval
and notification utility that automatically checks up to eight
password protected email accounts for AOL, AltaVista, Earthlink,
Email.com, Hotmail, Juno, Lycos, Mail.com, Mindspring, Netscape,
POP3, Rediffmail, USA, Yahoo, ZDNetOneBox and hundreds of other
email domains — all at the same time.

ePrompter is great. I do not have to let my wife or the kids
have the computer to check their email anymore. I can keep my
ePrompter open and show them that there is nothing there for
them to check. I do not even have to log off of my primary AOL
account to check the email inside of another AOL account.
ePrompter painlessly handles the details for me.

What is more, I can watch the rotating tray icon down by my
clock, which keeps me appraised of how many emails are in each
account by their individual color coded icons. The icon rotates
every few seconds telling me how many emails sit in each account
I have programmed into my system. ePrompter even has a screen
saver that keeps tabs on my email accounts with the color coded
images that tell me how many emails are waiting for me to view
them in each account. Now I can sit in front of the television
and watch my favorite show and glance at the screen saver to
see if that important mail I have been waiting for has arrived.

ePrompter even has its very own notification sound which is
the equivalent of “You’ve Got Mail.”

Aim for the Moon, If you miss…

Posted by admin on June 11, 2008 in Uncategorized

The saying goes like this “Aim for the moon, if you miss at least you will be among the stars!”

When it can’t be done – do it. If you don’t do it, it will not be done.

A new idea can be either unfamiliar, or silly, or both. It can be judged by description, it needs to be done to exist. It’s unlikely that anyone will invest or sanction the cost of something they don’t understand, therefore you have no choice but to do it yourself. You have to find a way to get it done

It’s exciting. It’s difficult and it’s fun. If it was easy anyone could do it. The film Citizen Kane is a very good example. It was stolen not sanctioned Orson Wells couldn’t find any financial backers, but he raised a small amount for casting. He begged, borrowed and milked people into building sets and shooting full -blown screen test which eventually formed a third of the film. Now it existed.

Backers could see what they were getting and he got the money. Without him doing it when it ‘couldn’t be done’ it would be another in the endless list of ideas that never happened. Myles Munroe says the wealthiest underground deposits are not the oil fields of Arabia or Alberta, not the Natural Gas deposits of the North Sea, it’s not even the diamond mines of South Africa – rather its cemeteries across the world. For in those graveyards are books that were never written, art never painted, songs never written, companies never started. In those tombs lies the greatest wealth potential – ideas.

You have them every day – what will you do with yours? What stops you from pursuing yours? Fear? Perhaps you are searching for an idea – well think outside the box. If you can’t think of anything that hasn’t been thought of already, then you need to start playing by the rules.

The person who doesn’t make mistakes is unlikely to make anything. Benjamin Franklin said “I haven’t failed. I’ve had 10,000 ideas that didn’t work. Thomas Edison said “Of the 200 light bulbs that didn’t work, every one of them told me something that I was able to incorporate into the next attempt. Theatre director Joan Littlewood said “If we don’t get lost, we’ll never find a new route.”

All of them understood that failures and false starts are a precondition of success. It takes a positive attitude to make mistakes well. Samuel Beckett said “Fail, Fail again, Fail better!”

It’s wrong to be right.
Being right is based upon knowledge and experience and is often provable. Knowledge comes from the past and its safe. It is also out of date and the opposite of originality.

Experience is found in solutions to old situations and problems. The old situations are probably different from the present ones, so that old solutions will have to be bent to fit a new problems) and possibly fit badly). Also, the likelihood is that if you’ve got the experience, you’ll use it. This is lazy.

Experience is the opposite of being creative. If you can prove you’re right, you are set in stone. You cannot move with the times or with other people. Being right is also boring and you mind is closed. You are not open to new ideas.

Star being wrong and suddenly anything is possible. You are no longer trying to be perfect. You are in the unknown, with no clue as to what will happen, but there’s more of chance of it being worthwhile than if you try to be right.

Most people worry about suggesting stupid ideas because of what others will think. Yes, it’s a risky business – you can look silly. Risk is a measurement of a person. People who won’t take them are trying to preserve what they have. People who do take them often end up having more.

Let’s dare to try new things, to aim high knowing that if we miss – its ok… we are closer to something new that has never been seen or heard of.

You should take a look at Internet Marketing, Forex Trading and other crazy ideas that everyone will doubt and predict your failure in. But its ok to try and fail… but what happens if you don’t fail? What would your life look like if you were not afraid of the new, of being wrong or failing once again?

It’s Time To Select Your Snow Blower

Posted by admin on June 9, 2008 in Uncategorized

A snow blower is a good investment. It may possible reduce doctor’s bill by going easy on your back. There are some considerations to be thought about before you go in the market for a snow blower, (also called snow thrower in some areas).

Consider the amount of snow and the density of snow that you will have to deal with. Take into account the total number of days of snow and the inches of snow per day. Also consider if the snow is fluffy or hard when you have to deal with the snow.

Take your machine for a test drive. Some showrooms have arrangements for testing the snow blower in their back yard. Going for a demonstration gives you the feel of the machine.

+ Snow blower costs

The following discussion gives you an idea of costs involved. Remember that the costs change significantly as it is a market play that determines the cost.

A single stage machine can be purchased from $350 to $800. A two-stage machine would cost you upwards of $1000. The costs would change depending on the throw distance of each machine and capacity of the machine

+ Varieties Of Machines In Market

Apart from the obvious variety of single stage and a two-stage machine, there is the variety of drive. The gasoline powered drive and electric driven machines are available in the market. Gasoline engine driven machines are generally two stroke engines and are noisy and polluting. Electric driven machines have the disadvantage that their power is limited. They cannot be made as two-stage machine. Where the snowfall is heavy, the electric machines will not be useful as the gas machines.

+ Snow Blower Safety

Safety is an important consideration while operating a snow blower. Take following precautions while operating a snow blower.

Never allow children to operate the snow blower. Serious injuries and even amputation of hands can take place if it encounters the rotating impeller of a two-stage machine.

If the blower is electric, the normal precaution when using electricity should be taken.

When a two-stage machine is working, it is as if there is magnet for children. A powerful throw from machine creates a good visual impact. If children are present, keep them at a sufficient distance so they do not come under the snow being thrown.
