To me, there’s little else that’s as satisfying as a quick hand or two of Texas Holdem poker when the weather outside turns foul. Rain? No problem! We have cards, chips and a few beers on hand, and we’re going to make this cloudy day a little more vibrant. By losing some money. Just kidding.
But more seriously, poker is one of those round table community games that really lets you stop focusing on the bad weather outside, and instead focus on friends and family (and kicking their butts) on the inside.
It’s also perfectly timed. Usually, a 20 or so person poker tournament lasts 2-3 hours, with breaks. Your typical storm might last that long, on average, meaning from the start of the game to the end, you might not even realize it’s raining outside. Talk about therapeutic!
Poker also lets you catch up with friends who might not have been by in a while, say, because of bad weather! While you take their money, you can catch up on all the things you’ve missed over the week, months or even years. Often times, I find this is a great way to reestablish contact with long lost friends or family.
