Rather than let the credit crunch, and lots of people losing their jobs get you depressed why not use it as a perfect opportunity to run your life more efficiently. I have been terrible with money, spending my finances like there was no tomorrow, it hasn’t been until recently that I have decided to get my house in order and actually work out where I can save money. One of the most effective things I have done is change my landline to a VoIP phone which now lets me make cheap calls to Spain. I had previously been spending a huge amount ringing overseas to catch up with friends. I’ve changed my cable subscription to a cheaper package, as I quite frankly rarely watch most of the TV channels I pay for. Another useful tip is to swap all your light bulbs to energy saving alternatives, which should go somewhere to reducing my electricity bill. I’ve improved my shopping habbits as well, rather than buying a meal everyday I now plan ahead and make sure I buy in bulk and freeze a lot of stuff which should also make a tremendous difference to my food bill. They all seem like simple things, but together they should save me a lot of money. I have already had one phone bill through and it’s so much cheaper its quite shocking that I hadn’t made the switch to VoIP earlier. Maybe this Christmas won’t be quite as much as a frugal write off as it could have been!
