Internet advertising mogul and search engine company Google has taken progressive steps in the UK to get the word out.
Due to lifted legislation on TV gambling and poker advertisements in the UK, Google has partnered with some of the top UK regulated online poker casinos and is offering up ad space on the search results page as sponsored links and relevant advertising.
While the legislation was originally intended to allow gambling operators to advertise on the television, the words of the legislation were broad and Google argued that it also covered online advertisements. As such, a ruling on October 18th has granted the web advertising prodigy the ability to place ads related to gambling and poker, thus allowing the casinos to reach out to the information superhighway audience with their digitized billboards.
To quell some of the debate over the ads, Google has also promised to only display the ads in the UK market they were given express permission to display in.
And, in the event that some people may find the advertisements offensive, Google is coding them as ‘not-family save’ so that popular proxy programs will be able to identify them as unsafe for children and thus restrict access.
Several activist and religious groups have however displayed outrage and surprise at the company’s move.
